WHAT IS RECONNECT?

RECONNECT is a program delivered by community organisations in your area to provide confidential support to families to try to help young people to stay at home until they have the necessary skills to become independent.

RECONNECT helps young people who are homeless and those at risk of homelessness to become more involved with their family, work, education, training and the community through mediation, counselling and practical support for the whole family.

RECONNECT works closely with other local services to provide help in a way that is sensitive to your family’s needs and those of your community.

WHO CAN RECONNECT HELP?

RECONNECT SERVICES the Bellingen and Nambucca Shires and helps young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years who are homeless or at the risk of homelessness and their families.

HOW WILL RECONNECT MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH FAMILY?

RECONNECT believes families are experts in how their family operates and what has been useful for them in the past.

RECONNECT will listen to you and help you to find out what will work best for your family.

RECONNECT services provide a range of support to both young people and families that are determined by your own unique circumstances.

RECONNECT is flexible and can meet with you at a safe location where you feel comfortable such as at the local RECONNECT service, school, home or another venue in the community.

HOW DOES RECONNECT HELP YOUNG PEOPLE AND THEIR FAMILIES?

RECONNECT can help young people to: -

• Work things out with their family;
• Connect with programs that help to find employment;
• Stay in school when it gets tough;
• Link into training options;
• Get income support if eligible; and
• Find somewhere safe to stay if necessary.

RECONNECT can help Parents, Guardians and Families to: -

• Work things out with the young person;
• Find out the best way to talk things through,
• Learn to live together when things are hard; and
• Learn to live apart but stay connected.
